Moii Official Rules

Version 2 · Effective 19 October 2026

What these rules cover

These Official Rules govern every auction on Moii. They apply to all participants and form part of your agreement with us. Each auction also states its own Bid Service Fee, opening and closing time, minimum and maximum bid and winner payment deadline; where those differ from auction to auction, the auction's own stated values apply. The minimum age and the territory are the same for every auction, and are set out under Eligibility.

You accept these rules once per version. When we publish a new version, you will be asked to accept it before you can submit another bid. Accepting a version covers every auction you enter under it.

Eligibility

To take part you must hold a valid Moii account, be 18 or older, and live in Ethiopia. When you set up your account you give us your date of birth and your country of residence, and we use them to decide whether you are eligible. We do not store your date of birth. These are your own declarations: Moii does not check identity documents and does not use your location. We check your declaration on our servers before we accept a Bid Service Fee, and again before a winner confirms their details or pays the winning bid amount, and every winner confirms again that they are 18 or older and live in Ethiopia. You must give truthful information when you register and keep it accurate. Giving false eligibility information is grounds for disqualification and for forfeiting a prize.

One person, one account. Creating or controlling more than one account to submit additional bids to the same auction is not permitted and is grounds for disqualification.

How to enter

Browsing and registration are free. To submit a bid you pay the Bid Service Fee shown on that auction. One Bid Service Fee payment buys exactly one private bid attempt.

You may submit more than one bid to the same auction. Each additional bid requires another full Bid Service Fee. You cannot submit the same number twice in the same auction.

What a valid bid is

A bid is a positive whole number within the minimum and maximum stated on the auction. Fractions, zero and negative numbers are not valid bids and cannot be submitted.

The bid amount itself is not charged when you submit it. Only the Bid Service Fee is charged at that point. The bid amount becomes payable only if you are the confirmed winner.

Your bid stays private

While an auction is active, your bid is private. We do not show it to other participants, and we do not tell you or anyone else anything about how the auction is going.

Specifically, while an auction is active Moii does not disclose whether your number is unique, whether anyone else has chosen it, how many bids or participants there are, what the current lowest number is, where a number sits in the ordering, or how the submitted numbers are spread. This is deliberate and applies to everyone equally.

When an auction opens and closes

Each auction states its opening and closing time. Our server clock is the authority on both. A bid is counted only if the payment for it is verified before the auction closes; a payment that completes after closing is refunded and the bid is not accepted.

If a technical fault would make an auction's outcome unfair, we may cancel the auction. Every Bid Service Fee paid to a cancelled auction is refunded in full.

How the winner is determined

When an auction closes, every eligible bid is counted. Any number submitted by more than one participant is removed. The winner is the participant who submitted the lowest number that remains — that is, the lowest positive whole number submitted by exactly one participant.

The calculation happens on our servers after closing. It cannot be influenced by any participant, and no participant can see the inputs. Once recorded, a result is final and is not altered.

If there is no unique bid

If every number submitted was chosen by more than one participant, there is no winner for that auction. No fallback winner is selected and no substitute is drawn.

This is a normal and expected outcome. Bid Service Fees already paid are not refunded in this case, because the bid attempt they paid for was submitted and counted.

Paying the Bid Service Fee

Payment is taken through our payment provider's secure hosted checkout. We never see or store your card number or mobile-money PIN.

A payment counts only when Moii has independently verified it with the payment provider. Returning to the app from the provider, or seeing a success message in your browser, is not by itself proof of payment — we always confirm with the provider before accepting a bid.

If a payment fails or is cancelled, no bid is submitted and no fee is charged. You may try again.

If you win

We will notify you in the app and, if you have enabled notifications, on your device. You then pay the winning bid amount within the deadline stated on that auction.

Winning the auction gives you the opportunity to purchase that product at your winning bid amount. It is not a gift, and the amount is payable before the product is dispatched.

Before you pay, you confirm your full name and that you are 18 or older and live in Ethiopia, and Moii's team reviews the claim. Moii does not check identity documents.

If you do not pay the winning bid amount within the deadline, the prize is forfeited. It is not offered to anyone else, and no other participant becomes the winner.

Products and delivery

Each auction describes the exact product on offer, including its condition. We deliver to addresses in Ethiopia, or hold the product for collection in Ethiopia, after the winning bid amount is paid.

If a product becomes genuinely unavailable before dispatch, we will either supply an equivalent item of the same or better specification with your agreement, or refund the winning bid amount in full.

Cancellation and refunds

If Moii cancels an auction before it closes, every Bid Service Fee paid to that auction is refunded.

If a payment is verified after the auction has already closed, that payment is refunded and no bid is accepted.

If a payment is verified but the bid it paid for cannot be accepted, that payment is refunded.

Refunds are made in full, through Chapa. We cannot promise how long the provider takes to return the money.

In every other case — including an auction that ends with no unique bid — Bid Service Fees are not refundable, because the fee pays for a bid attempt and that attempt was submitted. Nothing here limits any right you have under applicable consumer law.

Technical faults

If a technical fault prevents a bid being submitted or a payment being verified, we refund the fee for that attempt, or cancel the auction and refund every fee paid to it. We record what happened and act on our own records rather than on assertions about them.

We are not able to accept a bid that was never submitted to our servers.

Fair play

You must not use automation, scripts, bots or any tool to submit bids, and you must not attempt to discover, infer or interfere with other participants' bids or with the settlement process.

We may withhold a prize, suspend or close an account, and refuse future participation where we find manipulation, multiple accounts, payment fraud, or any attempt to obtain information the rules keep private.

An accepted bid stays in the auction it was entered into. That is deliberate: it is what makes the result the same however many times it is calculated, and it is why no action taken against an account after the fact can change who wins.

Communications

We contact you in the app, and by push notification if you have enabled it. Notices about a prize you have won, a payment, or your account are sent regardless of your marketing preferences, because you need them.

You can turn off any category of push notification in Profile → Notifications. Turning off a notification stops the alert on your device; the message still appears in the app.

Taxes

You are responsible for any tax that applies to you personally. We do not give tax advice.

Platform disclaimer

These auctions are sponsored, operated and administered solely by Moii. Apple is not a sponsor of, is not affiliated with, and has no responsibility for the conduct of these auctions. Google is not a sponsor of, is not affiliated with, and has no responsibility for the conduct of these auctions.

Nothing in these rules should be read as Apple or Google having reviewed, endorsed or approved any auction.

Changes to these rules

We may change these rules. Each change produces a new version with a new effective date, and you will be asked to accept the new version before submitting another bid. Auctions already running when a version changes continue under the version you accepted for them.

Governing law and disputes

These rules are governed by the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the Ethiopian courts.

Please contact us first. Most problems are a payment or a delivery that needs looking up, and we would rather find the record than argue about it. Nothing here removes any right you have to complain to a competent authority.
